What is Wood Burning?

Also known as Pyrography

Pyrography is the art of decorating and detailing wood or other surfaces with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object.

I use a dual tip burner by Tekchic.

This is a beautiful art form that is an escape to a completely different world. One of my favorite aspects of wood burning is how amazing the wood smells as you work. While burning there is a build up of carbon on the tip of the burner, I use a metal strainer to scratch the build up off. Different woods have different saps and smells, along with burn temperature.

How do you Wood Burn?

I use carbon paper and a pen tool to set original lines from the provided image. This is to keep all of my work authentically handcrafted. This also ensures precision in my line-work and accurate sizing to match all shapes, sizes and text. Once you have an image outline you grab your burner and heat things up!

When your art calls for larger sizes… I have my projector! Yes, this means we can create GIANT works of art as well!

Other than the fantastic smell while you create, the best part is watching the piece come to life as you burn in the details.

I am so grateful you have come to explore my world of wood burning. I’m a South Florida Local who grew up by the coast, you can see within my Gallery, I’ve retained a fondness of the outdoors & the natural beauty Florida has to offer.

I’ve been creative my whole life and have always explored different forms of arts & crafts. How did I get into wood burning? When do you decide to quit the regular 9-5 work week and do art full time?

My answer is through the recovery process of having both of my hips reconstructed….

It sounds terrorizing right? It was absolutely the hardest time of my life. Art & my dog hands down saved my life.

I had a condition called Femoroacetabular Impingement FAI (a condition in which one or both bones of the hip joint are irregularly shaped, causing them to rub against one another. The friction between these bones can cause tears in the labrum and damage the articular cartilage, which may increase the risk for osteoarthritis) I had both of my hips reconstructed from this condition. Along with a core muscle repair done in PA.

So a total of three surgeries later, with feeling broken both mentally and physically, wood burning is how I coped. I was able to turn my newfound art into what helped save me through my extensive recoveries. I want create my art to share beauty to the world, but also to raise awareness of this medical condition. If it wasn’t for what I thought “My life falling apart with all of my medical hurdles.” , I would have never been pushed to discover my deeper love and passion for this amazing art. All of this ended up saving and changing my life, so please come with me and be part of my beautiful world of wood burning.
